WHAT IS AN HYPOCALORIC DIET?

This diet is very low in calories, that's why it is also known as very low-calorie diets (VLCD).

The hypocaloric diet usually consists of 800 calories per day and it often relies on meal-replacements, such as soups or special shakes. As well as reduce the portions of normal food.

There is no specific duration for this diet. To approximate a date you have to take into account some factors, such as the height of the person. So for example, a person who must lose15kg has to set a short - term goal of achieving the first 10, then you have to introduce some foods limited from the beggining of the treatment to reach the ideal weight marked.

The dieter has to know how to combine foods, control rations, etc. This process tends to last for 5 - 6 months.

Dieters recommend the people who follow this diet to increase their daily physycal activity.

It also may shield you from disease. Eating less food plays a significant role in building inmunity, equipping your body to fight off some age diseases, such as Alzheimer and dementia.

Another benefit is in your muscle strenght. As you grow up, you often experience a decline in your muscle mass and function. However, by reducing the amount of calories we consume, you may help to delay this process.

DISADVANTAGES OF HYPOCALORIC DIET

Before adapting this type of diet is important to be aware of the potential risks.

The most significant danger of restrincting your diet is overdoing it. While eating a little less calories than usual can be benefitial for your health and well-being, going too far can be harmful for your health in different ways.

Another important disadvantage is that it can also affect you mentally. The glucose you are losing because of eating less, can cause you to feel mentally sluggish and potentially lead to memory problems. To have trouble to concentrate can also be a symptom of undereating.

CALORIES ARE ALL THAT MATTERS WHEN IT COMES TO WEIGHT LOSS: 

It is true that reducing the amount of calories in your meals is a very important factor for losing weight, but it is not the only one.

Relaying only in calorie intake doesn't account for the large number of variables that may prevent someone from losing wheight, even when on a very low calorie diet. For example: hormonal imbalances, health conditions like hypothyroidism, metabolic adaptations, etc. Are just some of the factors that can make weight loss harder for some people even when they are on a strict diet.

While reducing the calorie intake can indeed boost weight loss, cutting calories too low can lead to metabolic adaptations and long-term health consequences.
